Over thirty surgeries, most of them quite complex and complicated, were carried out during the five day Free Burn Surgery ‘Gift of Smile’ camp organized by Rotary Club of Jammu City at Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar here. The camp was held from February 15 to February 20.
This was revealed by Kavinder Gupta, Speaker, Legislative Assembly, at the Valedictory Ceremony held here on Tuesday. He congratulated the eminent doctors who had come to perform the surgeries from outside the State, as well as the doctors from the State for their unique humanitarian effort. “By bringing a smile to the lips of the underprivileged patients of the State who otherwise could not have afforded such expensive surgeries, Rotary Club of Jammu City has achieved another milestone in their ongoing journey of selflessly serving the humanity”, he said.
Gupta also lauded the efforts of the doctors, paramedical and support staff of Govt. Hospital, Gandhi Nagar who, under the stewardship of Dr. A D S Manhas, Medical Superintendent, spared no efforts in the successful conduct of the camp.
Earlier Rtn. Anil Swaraj, President, Rotary Club of Jammu City, gave a detailed account of the activities of the Club and said that this Camp was conceived following a meeting with Rtn. Vijay Sehdev, District Chairman of Project. He thanked Dr. Chanjiv Mehta, the lead doctor who assembled a team of the finest doctors of the country, including Dr. Surajit Bhattacharya, President, Plastic Surgeons Association of India, for the Camp. He also thanked Dr Sanjeev Uppal, HoD, DMC, Ludhiana, Dr Parshant Gautam, Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Dr. Harkiran, Dr. Rajrishi Sharma, Dr. Sahul Lerra, Dr Rakesh Sharma and other doctors and paramedical staff for their untiring efforts in making the Camp successful. He announced that henceforth this Camp would be organized every year in the month of March/April.
A presentation was made on the occasion, highlighting the complications suffered by the patients and the surgical treatment provided. Rtn. Adeep Mehta, the Project Chair for the Camp, gave details during the visual presentation.
The Speaker gave away mementoes to all the Doctors, paramedical staff and support staff for their exemplary services. He also visited the wards in which the patients who have undergone surgery are recuperating.
